Why Teach Interfaith?
The Golden Thread of Truth provides an opportunity for young people to explore different faith traditions and to understand the common threads of love, compassion and community that run through them all. It allows them to see the similarities in these traditions, rather than just the differences, and to appreciate the richness and diversity of the world's spiritual heritage. By learning about different religious customs, beliefs, and practices, children can gain a deeper understanding of other cultures and ways of life, and develop a sense of respect and empathy for those who may be different from themselves. Additionally, it can help to lay the foundation for an interfaith dialogue, where people of different beliefs can come together to discuss their spiritual practices in a safe, respectful, and open-minded setting.
”We really need to respect each other’s opinions, even if you don’t agree with them. And this is true for religion and teaching children spirituality. You may have friends who are quite devout - very dedicated and grounded in practicing their faith. I may not happen to believe what they believe, but I completely admire and respect that they are able to embrace an expression of life in such a healthy way that really contributes to them being happier, having compassion and being able to cope with the challenges of life. I respect that even though I do not follow their beliefs - whatever that belief is.”
