Interfaith Education

Use this page to find specific holidays, faiths or cultures that your family would like to learn more about and use for your interfaith education.

Looking at the calendar with our family, we often see holidays that have no particular celebration within our family but is an important holiday for other people on the planet. By taking the spiritual stories relative to their religion and combine them with religious crafts for kids, you can easily help your young one understand the holiday as well as have a little bit of fun!

Our interfaith education curriculum includes:
  • Buddhists celebrate Buddha’s life in February on Nirvana Day. Nirvana is the idyllic spiritual condition, the ultimate goal of a Buddhist.
  • Easter is an important holiday in the Spring for Christians over the world. Easter celebrates Jesus’s promise of renewal and rebirth.
  • Jews celebrate the new year in September during Rosh Hashanah and Simchat Torah begins around the same time as the beginning of the school year. Simchat Torah celebrates the annual completion of the Torah readings and is a time of great celebration.
  • Hindus celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Light, in November. One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, it lasts two days and spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair.
  • And through December, multiple holidays for many religions are observed; such as Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa is an African American secular holiday which is celebrated from December 26th until New Year’s Day. Dr. Maulana Karenga first envisioned the idea for a cross-national African holiday as a way to bring African Americans together as a community and family.

The Golden Thread of Truth’s interfaith program is filled with spiritual stories for kids that will give you a reliable, consistent way to share and deepen the message of the observance and have fun with the craft!
